Competitive Research Grants

These grants will initiate, facilitate and support basic and applied scientific research for the development of R&D for socioeconomic development of the country. It will also provide assistance to supplement the financial, physical and manpower resources available for scientific research in the scientists own institutions.

National Thematic Research Programme (NTRP)

The themes under the NTRP are decided as per the national priorities. The NSF has identified Energy Security, Food Security, Water Security and Climate Change as the priority areas to start with.

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Applications are invited from scientists/ engineers with PhD or equivalent qualifications and good research record, who would commit for full time research up to 3 years (within Sri Lanka). The research scientists may be the full time investigator of work on a project of another principal investigator. The award will cover a stipend and/ or research expenses.

Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka and should be registered with the STMIS database of the NSF; hold a Doctoral research degree, and possess adequate research experience after postgraduate qualification.

Research Fellowships

Applications are invited from eminent Scientists/Engineers with PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualifications as determined by the Board of Management to undertake full time research (within Sri Lanka) up to 3 years. Selected candidates will be entitled to a stipend as decided by the NSF and research expenses.

Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka and should be registered with the STMIS database at the NSF, and possess a PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualifications as determined by the Board of Management and a good publication record with papers in peer reviewed journals at the time of application. Applications are considered only for individual projects.

NSF Grant Scheme to promote Science and Technology Publications
