International conference in Vietnam

The conference was hosted by the Centre for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (HCMC USSH, VNU-HCMC) at the Grand Hotel Saigon on 11th September 2014. Experts from 11 different countries and four continents were invited to share the insight on International Research Cooperation and Intellectual Property Management.

The president of HCMC University of Social Science and Humanities (USSH), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen, opened the conference by reassuring the importance of IPR development in the country as well as the university. Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Director of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Center (IPTTC), VNU-HCMC; Nguyen Manh Quy, Director of the HCMC representative office of the Copyright Office of Vietnam; Ho Trung Phuoc, Director of the Binh Thuan Province’s Department of Science and Technology, also gave their speech addressing the IPR challenges in the country to over 100 participants in the room.

Following that, HEIP-LINK was introduced together with its online web tool for IP management in transnational IPR co-operation. The participants were also informed about the programmes for European funding opportunity for higher education co-operation – Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+.

The conference was then divided into five thematic areas and in each session, a panel shared the experience and stimulated discussion with the audience:

  • The underlying drivers of international research co-operation – Contribution to society
  • The legal perspective of co-operation
  • Challenges of cross-border research in HEIs of emerging economics
  • Good practice IP management in universities
  • Teaching of intellectual property at universities.
